Medical Transcriptionist

Medical transcriptionists transcribe dialogue from clinical professionals, such as physicians, by digitally typing notes. These professionals must pay attention to detail and have a strong understanding of grammar and clinical language to ensure accurate transcriptions. 

They also need to possess strong communication skills to both receive and relay information verbally and through writing. Because keeping accurate documentation of dictation is essential in medicine, medical transcriptionists can be found in just about any clinical setting. 

Job Responsibilities

• Record dialogue from clinical meetings and interactions 
• Maintain and update transcription files 
• Ensure file accuracy by checking for spelling and grammar errors
• Print, prepare, and produce multiple copies of specific reports 
• Telecommunicate with other staff members 

Qualifications and Skills 

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience 
• Associate degree in a related field 
• Active Registered Healthcare Documentation Specialist (RHDS) designation preferred 
• 2+ years of transcriptionist or secretarial experience preferred  
• Proficiency with word processing software
