Cardiovascular Technologist

Job Duties:

  • Verifying the medical history of patients
  • Making patients feel comfortable and welcome by answering questions and attending to requests
  • Attaching electrodes to patients and operating electrocardiograph machine to get readings for electro-cardio-grams
  • Assist physicians with placing catheter into a patient’s heart through a blood vessel to diagnose and treat cardiac and peripheral ailments
  • Prepare patients for catheterization and when necessary shaving, cleaning or administering anesthetics
  • Obtain ultrasound echoes to observe heart function, circulation, and blood flow
  • Operating medical equipment and checking that computers and cardiovascular systems equipment are in proper working order and responding to equipment breakdowns
  • Preparing diagnostic procedure reports for a physician to interpret
  • Measuring the thickness of the heart walls as well as the size of heart chambers to recognize irregularities

Position Requirements:

  • Education: Associate’s degree
  • Specializations:
    • Electrocardiography – Performing EKG
    • Echocardiography – Applying ultrasound technology for heart imaging
    • Vascular Technology – Assessment of blood flow to identify abnormalities
    • Cardiology – Assist doctors to implant cardiac catheters
  • At least one year of experience
  • Skills
    • Technical and interpersonal skills
    • Strong hand-eye coordination
    • Attention to detail
