Remote Coding Specialist
The remote coding specialist will work off site to assign codes to patient’s services and medical diagnosis.
Job Duties:
- Maintain a reliable mode of receiving medical charts, medical records, and other documents
- Appropriately code the received documents within the predetermined timeline
- Send coded documents to insurance companies or back to medical facilities as appropriate
- Ensure medical coding software is updated and operating properly
- Keep records extremely organized and accurate
- Maintain current knowledge of coding guidelines and federal regulations
- Remain familiar with the International Classification of Diseases (ICD), Current Procedural Terminology (CPT), and Diagnosis-related Group (DRG) codes
Requirements:
- Minimum Associate’s degree in medical coding
- Minimum 3 years’ experience as a coding specialist
- Certification as a coding specialist through the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA)
- Certified professional Coder by the American Association of Medical Coders (AAMC)
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- In depth knowledge of computer operation
