A Licensed Practical Nurse or Licensed Vocational Nurse – commonly referred to as a LPN/LVN Case Manager – generally provide basic medical care for patients. They typically work under the direction of a doctor or registered nurse – offering assistance wherever it is needed.

LPN/LVN Case Managers commonly help with bedside care for patients, such as taking vital signs like temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiration. They also help monitor reactions to medications and treatments, as well as prepare injections, treat bedsores, and maintain patient hygiene. In addition to assisting doctors and nurses with day-to-day tasks, an LPN/LVN Case Manager ensures patients stay comfortable and care for their emotional needs.

Responsibilities of an LPN/LVN Case Manager include:

  • Monitor patient health
  • Administer routine health care activities
  • Assist patients with everyday tasks, such as bathing and changing clothes
  • Maintain and document patient records
  • Communicate the status of patients with doctors and nurses
  • Provide patients with medication as prescribed by a doctor

LPN/LVN Case Managers are required to complete a one year program and pass the National Council Licensure Examination – Practical Nurse (NCLEX-PN exam). Once licensed, LPN/LVN Case Managers are qualified to work at a hospital.
